Is AI the Next Industrial Revolution

The Cambridge Dictionary defines the ‘Industrial Revolution’ as the time when work began to
be done more by machine and less by human hand. The spinning wheel made way for the
spinning jenny.


Over the years, subsequent industrial revolutions, too, featured this aspect. One thing has
remained constant, though. Machines or paradigms that came with each Industrial
Revolution need to be ultimately planned or operated by humans.


Even in the case of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the aim is to automate work more
aggressively with IoT, cloud computing, and Artificial Intelligence! That’s right! For many,
Artificial Intelligence falls under the Fourth Industrial Revolution.


So, to term the advent of AI as the next (or fourth) Industrial Revolution, it should satisfy
these criteria:


● It should be able to reduce human work and increase the productivity of machines
● It should create more jobs
